Business Profile of Alison Rothwell
My name is Alison and I have over 13 years secretarial and administration experience. Over 9 of these were gained working for a global pensions and actuarial company based in their Leeds office.
My role as PA to their senior actuary involved diary and travel management, organising internal and external meetings often involving delegates based in different geographical locations, preparing reports and presentations using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, collating data using Excel for input into reports and invoices, arranging voice and video conferencing, producing invoices using an in-house system and conducting internet research. I have therefore developed strong computer skills and administrative knowledge which could be used to the benefit of your business.
I have been a freelance PA since 2007 helping a variety of clients from vastly differing sectors of the business world as well as private individuals. I am based near York in North Yorkshire, but you don’t have to be, because as a virtual company there are no geographical limitations and I am always only a phone call or an email away.
This is my second experience of running a business, after graduating from Leeds University in 1992 I set up and ran a catering and event management business for approximately 4 years until relocation brought that venture to a halt. This experience, as well as giving me an invaluable insight into the running of a very busy small business, left me with excellent time management skills and a keen attention to detail.
I have 2 children and am running my own business so leisure time is precious however when I do have time to unwind I enjoy reading.
I have very eclectic tastes but especially Sci-Fi and Fantasy some of my favourite books are Tigana and the Fionovar Tapestry (Guy Gavriel Kay), The Lord of The Rings (Tolkien), Weaveworld and Imajica (Clive Barker) and Magician (Raymond Feist). I also read classics (Wuthering Heights and anything by Jane Austen are particular favourites), modern classics and the occasional crime novel.
I love cooking and baking, embroidery, dining out and socialising with friends and listening to rock music – some of my favourite bands include Styx, Journey, Aerosmith, Rush and ACDC – the louder the better!
